The hike is considered moderate. While it’s manageable for most people in decent physical condition, the terrain can be steep and rocky, especially near the summit.

The hike is basically divided into three sections

  1. Forest – You start hiking through the forest of the Ilamatepec mountain range, this section is very steep so we suggest you take it slow, focus on your breathing and let your body adapt to the altitude.
  2. Bushes – The second part is mainly bushes, you will be able to rest a bit as there are some “flat” areas that will let you get back on track, also from here you will be able to enjoy views of the Izalco volcano, Cerro Verde Park.
  3. Rocks – The third and last section is mainly rocks so here you go slow. No more threes or bushes so remember to put sunscreen.
